Speed is an important attribute for a football player. Regardless of your size or the position you play on the field, you need to practice improving your speed. Working on increasing your speed before you worry about adding weight to your frame. The extra weight may slow you down and being big and slow is not going to help your team.

Learn to be precise in your patterns. It can't be emphasized enough the importance of precision. Just a few feet in any direction and you won't be in place to make an important tackle or to catch the football that's been thrown to you. This takes a lot of repetition during practice, so be ready for it.

A great tip is to practice plays as much as you can if you're an offensive lineman. You need to be able pull off the right block every time, and the only way to achieve this is to practice as much as you possibly can. Your runningbacks and receivers will thank you.

You will never achieve your goals by being lazy. When you skip a practice, don't work out, eat the wrong things or allow your mind to wander, you will end up a loser. If you would rather be a winner, focus on your goals and do what it takes to achieve them.

If you are just getting started in football training, or are returning after a period of abstinence, stick with exercises that strengthen a wide variety of muscles at the same time. This will give you the overall body strength you need to later progress into isolation exercises for specific strengths.

Remember that the only thing about you which can't be changed is how tall you are. If you practice correctly, you can improve your speed, bulk up, increase your strength and your skill level. If you keep eating right, exercising and practicing, you can make most changes.

Even though being heavy can boost you in football, you really want to avoid gaining too much fat. Fat is detrimental as you get older, especially as you become less active. Add muscle mass to your body instead, and keep the fat ratio down.

No one enjoys committing errors in football, or any sport. However mistakes do happen. Learning from mistakes can be the most important lesson sometimes. You will soon see a real difference and feel a lot more confident than before about your abilities.
