To become a great singer you need to put in extraordinary effort and get the best kind of voice training . Since singing is much more than taking a deep breath and producing certain sounds, you need training to ensure that the sounds which emanate are mellifluous. You have to learn that many of the functions of our vocal cords and voice box are involuntary reflexes that we cannot control consciously. The entire learning process which you undergo when you get voice training enables you to create what is known as muscle memory.

This is created when you practice vocal drills or pitching exercises.

To develop correct singing habits, we need to practice positive reinforcement through muscle memory. By using the correct singing methods often so that our voice and our brain remembers them and uses them each time we sing! After a period of training you should perceive certain changes in your singing. You sing from the bottom to the top of your range without strain. Your voice is stronger and louder. You have more stamina and singing appears effortless. Your range has increased and you reach the desired pitch, including high notes. Some exercises are intended to activate qualities in your voice while other exercises are designed to de-activate qualities. A student has no way of knowing what is helpful and what would be counter-productive.

Only a very highly experienced voice coach would know whether you need more exercises to strengthen your chest voice, or more pitching or rhythm training, or even some basic lessons in pronunciation and diction. Make sure you have chosen a voice coach who is encouraging and takes pride in your progress. If you want to sing like Beyonce, you need to learn how to belt. Your coach will tell you that when belting, support your voice by holding in your abdominal muscles and sing in your high register rather than pushing up from the bottom of your voice. Practice belting using descending scales, ascending semitone by semitone with each repetition.
