Acne is a skin problem that has several causes. It usually affects people in the age group of 11 to 30 years and appears with varying intensities. During adolescence, people are most susceptible to acne as the formation of oil in the sebaceous glands is increased and rapid. However, acne can appear at all ages irrespective of the gender and race of an individual.

Acne is an infection that is caused by high oil production in the skin glands. Sometimes, the secreted oil is trapped under the skin due to blocked pores. When the oil is accumulated, it is infected by bacteria. As the popula
tion of bacteria grows, the infection increases. Acne manifests itself in the form of whiteheads, blackheads and small pustules initially. If ignored, it can convert into cysts and nobules that are embedded deeply in the skin. These skin eruptions are likely to cause permanent damage by leaving scars on the surface of the skin.

There are several home acne treatment regimes that you can follow to reduce inflammation and infection. The use of home acne treatment is highly recommended as it is safe on all skin types. This approach is also economic and free from side effects. Some common home remedies are:

Asafetida:  This is a very pungent flavor that is used in Indian cooking mostly. All you need to do is dissolve a small amount of asafetida in water and apply it on the affected area. The pus is dried up overnight reducing its severity.

Indian Lilac- This is also known as neem. It can be used in several forms on the skin to yield desirable results. The most common way of applying Indian lilac in home acne treatment is by boiling a few leaves in water. The residue can then be applied on the affected area to yield results. The leaves can also be ground to a fine paste and then applied. Indian Lilac is a strong antibacterial that can reduce the growth of bacteria.

Turmeric: Turmeric can be mixed with a small amount of milk and then applied on the affected areas. Turmeric is an antiseptic that prevents infections and the formation of pus within the inflammation. You can even use turmeric as a preventive measure against acne.

Aloe Vera: Aloe Vera can be grown at home to use regularly. All you need to do is use the gel that is found in the leaves on the affected area. You can also purchase Aloe Vera gel from stores. This is a coolant that reduces inflammation, redness and irritation of the skin.

Lemon: Lemon is slightly acidic. This property is extremely useful in eliminating the bacteria from the affected area. Lemon can also be mixed with honey to have a bleaching effect. This reduces dark spots and scars caused by acne.

Any home acne treatment must be repeated continuously in order to get the best results. Although the visible effects are slower, they are long lasting and provide several additional benefits to the skin.
