Learn some simple home improvement projects that will allow you to change, upgrade or repair your living space. You only need to invest small sums of money and develop a few skills. Follow these suggestions to help you boost your efforts and get ideas. You will then get a good idea of what you can successfully accomplish.

Bathroom

When it comes to home improvement, consider remodeling either your kitchen or bathroom first. These are two of the best ways that you can add the most value to your house. If possible, add an additional bathroom to your house as this is always a way
to boost the value of your home.

If you have tiles in your bathroom, make sure to use bath rugs in front of your toilet and bathtub. Adding bath rugs not only adds a touch of personality to your bathroom, but also keeps you from slipping and falling; try rugs with different patterns and designs for a look that is uniquely your own.

If your shower and bathtub seem to be building up mildew, or leaking a little bit, it may be time for you to re-caulk. Removing your old caulk and putting in new should actually be done once a year as your typical bathroom maintenance. You can purchase calk from any hardware store for a very reasonable price.

Kitchen

Have a large bulletin board in your kitchen or living room, where you can write reminders for yourself of things you need to do or bills you need to pay. Emergency phone numbers, contacts, brochures, postcards and notes to yourself, look better arranged on a bulletin board and won't clutter your refrigerator or other appliances.

Put fire extinguishers in several rooms of your home. Fire extinguishers are particularly important in the kitchen, but they would be a wise investment for practically every room. Fires can break out in electrical wiring, where a chimney passes through a ceiling, and practically anywhere. Be prepared!

If you are renovating your kitchen but need to spend less money, consider using laminate flooring and countertops. These synthetic options are generally much less expensive than wood, tile, or stone. They are also easier to care for. Many of these products are designed to closely mimic the natural products, so that the difference is only visible on close inspection.

Laundry

Add exhaust fans in your laundry room, bathroom and kitchen. Proper venting of moist air lowers the humidity of the room, reducing the chance of developing a mold or mildew problem. This stops wood rot in your walls and ceilings, too.

Opt to do your laundry every time your hamper fills up, instead of waiting for your dirty laundry to pile for a week. Throwing your laundry in the washing machine every two days cuts down the amount of time you need to spend folding, waiting for the washing machine and the dryer and puts less strain on your machine.

If you are considering hanging wallpaper in your bathroom, laundry room, or kitchen, opt for wet-look vinyl. This type of wallpaper is able to withstand sprinkles, splashes, and splatters and is also ideal for use in homes in even the most humid climate. Be sure to clean and smooth the wall surface before hanging vinyl, however, as any imperfections may show through.

After reading this article, hopefully you will feel better equipped to take on your next home improvement project yourself. If you work hard, you will be able to create a better place. Not only can doing your own home improvements save you money, but it can be something fun and enjoyable.
