Full ContentIs there anything more frustrating that sitting around waiting for your home insurance company to do their job? When it's your home on the line it doesn't seem like anything should be holding up the works, and there really shouldn't be. Unfortunately, not all insurance companies have the resources to keep their end of the bargain when it comes to your home insurance claims. Here's what you can do if you're sick and tired of waiting around for your insurer to get the message.
First and foremost, take the time to review your insurance policy. Your home insurance policy should clea
Keep in mind that many times an insurance company will drag their feet dealing with a claim when they know they don't have any responsibility for it. Are your repairs covered under the terms of your homeowners insurance policy? Make sure you're reading the fine print and squinting between the lines looking for loopholes. The last thing you want to do is get ahold of your insurance agent's ear only to hear that there's nothing they can do because your coverage doesn't stretch that far.
Not only is that frustrating, it can also strain relations between you and your insurer from that point on.
When your insurance company isn't keeping up their end of the bargain you're free to seek legal recourse as you see fit. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar, however. Bear in mind that you may have to work with these people again! If you're sure you're covered and the promised time has lapsed, contact your insurance agent and let them know. While we would all love to believe that our home insurance companies are infallible entities run entirely by machines and free of human error, they are in fact powered up by real people and therefore sometimes make mistakes.
When you deal with hundreds of insurance claims every day it's easy for one to slip between the cracks. Many of these home insurance companies offer auto insurance and life insurance as well, which means they have thousands of clients. A gentle reminder that their agents are falling down on the job is usually enough to get a heartfelt apology and a certified claims adjustor on job tout suite.
If playing with honey isn't getting the job done you may need to call in the big guns. Contact an attorney and let them get the wheels of justice moving. Remember, you've paid your home insurance premiums in good faith, probably for years. Your insurance company has a legal obligation to make sure you're taken care of, and if they're not doing that of their own free will there are people out there that would be happy to do it for them.
