Confused about which is the best Hyundai EV Charging station for your Hyundai Ioniq or Hyundai Kona EV? Let the expert team at EVSE Australia break down the key things to look for in your next Hyundai EV Charging station at your home or workplace.

The Hyundai Ioniq EV will be a game change for the Australian Electric Vehicle market as this will be the first time that the Nissan Leaf will have serious compe

tition in the mid-market price range. The Hyundai Ioniq and Hyundai Kona EV will open up EV ownership to a wider part of the market who previously could not afford an electric vehicle, or couldn’t make the switch given the unrealistic range of the previous Nissan Leaf of 150km.

The most important thing to consider when you purchase your Hyundai EV Charging station is where you plan to park the majority of the time. For most Hyundai Ioniq EV owners this will be at home in the garage, with studies showing that 80% of Hyundai EV charging will be done overnight. This has the benefit of being both cheaper, by utilising off peak electricity rates, and more convenient as it only takes you a few seconds to plug in your Hyundai Ioniq or Hyundai Kona into the EV charging station.

The best Hyundai EV charging station will have a Type 2 (Mennekes) Plug or socket and allow for a minimum of 7kW of charging power at single phase. This will mean that you can finish charging on your Hyundai EV charging station in 4 hours to get from 0-100% full battery range. You could also consider a 10amp Type 2 Portable Hyundai EV Charging station, which will allow you to plug in and charge from any domestic 10amp power point. It is important to keep in mind that a Type 2 Portable Hyundai EV Charging station whilst convenient, will take double the amount of time to achieve a full charge and is best utilised as a top up or occasional use EV charger.

At work you ideally want a universal socket Hyundai EV charging station which will allow for any EV to use the charger as well as minimise the wear and tear on the unit. EVSE will often recommend a 22kW Universal EO Charging station for your workplace ev charging station for your Hyundai EV, as this will allow for maximum charging of not only your Hyundai Ioniq, but also other popular EVs such as the Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model 3 and Renault ZOE Z.E.

The Hyundai Ioniq will also be able to access rapid charging through a DC Charging station and the Hyundai’s CCS2 fast charging port. These rapid Hyundai Charging stations will likely be found in high density high turnover locations as well as along major highways and regional areas and will open up the range and functionality of the Hyundai EV.
